What's Happenened To Cardiff City's Jordon Mutch?

Cardiff City swooped quickly over the summer to secure a deal for highly rated Birmingham City midfielder Jordon Mutch. The deal came as a welcome surprise to many and the talented former Watford loanee went on to become a starting player early in the season. He added some much needed height and steel to the engine room, but is by no means a battler - showing a deftness of touch and a versatility that complimented his team-mates and Peter Whittingham very well.

Mutch played in every league game, including all 90 minutes of the 0-2 away victory at Millwall. He was ruled out of the 3-2 reversal at Palace but had expected to be available just a week later and at the beginning of October he claimed while speaking to WalesOnline:

"I`ll be ready for next Saturday`s match against Ipswich Town."

"I have been training and am close to full fitness, but wasn`t quite ready to play against Blackpool."

Over three weeks later, and following a lengthy International break - Mutch is yet to return to a matchday squad for the Bluebirds. Mackay took the unusual step this week of naming Whittingham and Cowie as the central duo in a 4-4-2 formation meaning the likes of Gunnarsson, Kiss and Mutch all missed out.

What had seemed to be an innocuous and minor foot injury will have kept Mutch out of the squad for almost two months by the time Burnley visit this weekend - a lenthy absence and he will now need time to regain match sharpness.

Mutch is now returned to full training, and is assumed to be back in contention. His presence is a great attribute to haveand he is very good at picking up loose ball and retaining possession. Hopefully, he has not been risked to protect from further injury and will now go on to fight for his place and continue impressing for the Bluebirds.
