A quick look at two (fairly) recently departed Cardiff City players suggests that they are enjoying their pastures new and, while neither will be remembered by Bluebirds fans as being anything of a goal threat - both experienced pros are finding the goals flowing recently.
The first is Gavin Rae. Hard-working, determined and tidy enough in the centre of midfield, Rae was a solid player for City but we perennially struggled to dominate in the engine room and with a regular midfield duo of Rae and McPhail - there was never any goal threat coming from that area!
Now, however, Rae plays for Aberdeen in the SPL. He joined after a brief spell with Dundee, and his first season saw him play on a semi-regular basis for his new club. As most City fans would expect - he failed to find the net in any of his 12 league appearances for the Dons. This season has been an altogether different affair, and after opening his Aberdeen account with a League Cup goal - Rae has now gone on to net 3 goals in 4 SPL games - picking up 10 points from the 12 on offer!
During his Cardiff City career, Gavin Rae only managed 8 goals in over 150 appearances for the Bluebirds - he looks on course to better that in one full season for Aberdeen! Of course, the standard of opposition is different in the league, but Rae is now 34 and will be 35 in just over a months time - what a time to finally find his scoring form…..
