Cardiff City secured a impressive 2-1 victory over Birmingham City last night with a gutsy and determined performance - if not the glossy, slick style that saw us thrah Blackpool just days earlier.
As ever, Noone and Bellamy created havoc, providing pace, skill and a superb work ethic but converting our marginal dominance to taking the three points was largely down to central defender Mark Hudson - weighing in with a goal and an assist.
Hudson remained forward after a set-piece attack was half cleared. He somehow beat the offside trap and, whilst off balance, managed to steer a flick back across goal and into the path of the onrushing Craig Bellamy to slot home. I wasn't entirely sure that Hudson's contribution was altogether intentional - however, he certainly did well to react and get meaningful contact in difficult conditions.
It was later left to Hudson to score the winning goal, not long after Birmingham had equalised, and again following another set-pieec. This time the Blues made a mess of dealing with Whittingham's back post corner, and Hudson was able to react first to stab a scrappy ball home.
Hudson is certainly a dangerous player in attack, and was sent forward in preference to Matthew Connolly on Saturday - even with the former QPR man on a hat-trick! Clearly Hudson is a vitally important part of our side, and a vastly improved player on the defender we saw in hid debut season.
