Cardiff City picked up an excellent three points last night but it came at a heavy price with impressive striker Nicky Maynard carried off in serious discomfort during the second half.
Maynard is yet to score for City, but you can see just how much he contributes with his frightening pace and intelligent movement. He has a good work ethic, and has been instrumental in creating the space and chances for Whittingham, Noone and co.
Maynard went down midway through the second half, and was clearly in agony. He was roundly booed as the Lions played on, and left the field as if feigning injury. Any fan with an ounce of sense could see he was distraught and in trouble.
It looked like a knee injury, and on first impression a bad one. Maynard will be assessed, and we should know more shortly but anything involving ligament damge will see him sidelined for between 3-6 months with absences of over a year seen in extreme cases. Here's hoping it was just a twist.
Of course, City have Bellamy, Helguson, Velikonja as frontline strikers all left out of the starting line-up tonight. That's in addition to Gestede and Earnshaw. However, Maynard offers so much and was really looking an excellent buy. Hopefully the devastating loss can be avoided and he can be back in action very shortly.
