Cardiff City Bid For QPR's Connolly

Cardiff City are reportedly close to bringing QPR's long serving centre-half Matthew Connolly to the club after agreeing a deal with the Rs.

City are short of options in defence, following the sale of Anthony Gerrard to Huddersfield Town recently. Currently, only Darcy Blake would be available in case of injury or suspension to first choice pair Mark Hudson and Ben Turner with Israeli centre-back Dekel Keinan out-of-favour and looking for a new club.

Connolly began his career at Arsenal, but found his home at Loftus Road becoming a popular figure there. However, most Rangers fans agree he needs to move on to get first team action and Malky Mackay has identified him as a top target.

Despite this, QPR manager Mark Hughes has only recently confirmed that Connolly would get chances this year and that he did not expect the former Reading loan player to move on this summer.

Connolly is primarily a centre-half, but has appeared across the backline to good effect in the past. He is powerful in the air and has good height, but is not reknowned for being particularly quick.
