Cardiff City kick off the new Championship season tonight against Huddersfield Town - we spoke to Sean from Terrier-Bytes to get his thoughts ahead of the game:
HTFC aspirations this season
I think the main aim this season is to stay in the league and build from there. We have a chairman (Dean Hoyle) who is a fan but is also wealthy and is willing to back the manager to the hilt in terms of signings, we are ambitious club and with our chairman the sky really is the limit. We have a manager in Simon Grayson who is proven at keeping promoted teams from League One in the Championship so I'm quite confident that we'll do OK this season. I think we'll finish round about 15th.
Happy with summer signings/preparations
So far the signings have been particuarly pleasing. Sean Scanell from Crystal Palace looks a real livewire with his pace and trickery and looks as though he could be becoming a key player for us this season. Oliver Norwood a midfielder from Manchester United looks promising, he's only young but we've heard rave reviews about him for his techincal ability from clubs he's been on loan at and the fact that Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to keep him at United speaks volumes. Notts Forest fans were gutted we swooped for Joel Lynch on a free, he looks a solid defender and I have been told by some Forest fans he was their best player last season. We've signed your old boy Anthony Gerrard last week but I've yet to see him play but I've heard promising things about him. Paul Dixon joined on a free from Dundee United, he's a left back who likes to get forward and from what I've seen he looks an excellent crosser of the ball. We beat other Championship clubs to sign Dixon so I think that proves we can hold our own when attracting players. Blackpool fans' favourite Keith Southern has joined us too, he looks the warrior we've been missing in our midfield. Not afraid of putting a foot in he too could be a key player for us this season. The pre-season campaign hasn't been great but its all about fitness and learning to gel once that kicks in we'll do OK.
HTFC Player to watch
I'd say Sean Scanell after his performance in a recent friendly. His pace and trickery could damage a few teams for us this season.
Which Cardiff player would you pick on a free transfer
Might seem a rather easy answer but I'd say Craig Bellamy. Even though he's 32 he's still a class player and could still easily play in the Premier League. About 6/7 years ago we played Blackburn in the league cup when Bellamy was playing for them and he ripped us to shreds all night we couldn't handle his pace.
Prediction for Friday's game?
If I'm honest I could see this game bringing us back to earth with a bang. I'd take a dull 0-0 I'd be happy with come away with a point from your place anymore would be a bonus!
