Derby To Steal Keogh Away From Cardiff City?

Derby County have seemingly become favourites to secure the transfer of Coventry City defender Richard Keogh after the Rams saw an £800k bid accepted. Keogh is a top transfer target for Malky Mackay as he looks to identify competition and cover for his preferred centre-half duo of Hudson and Turner.

Keogh is primarlity a centre-half, but can also deputise at right-back. City released Gabor Gyepes during last season, while Dekel Keinan and more lately Anthony Gerrard were told to find new clubs. Gerrard's departure is on hold until a suitable newcomer can be tied up, while Darcy Blake also provides capable cover across the back four.

It would be a blow for Malky to miss out on Keogh, after tracking the Sky Blues captain for some time and making our own £750k offer for the player.

Coventry City manager Andy Thorn is resigned to losing his defensive lynchpin and said of Keogh:

'Richard is in discussions with another club and what will be will be with that one. We'll just have to see what happens.'

'It's just business. We can't let his contract run down and let him go for no money. It's a shame, but these things happen.'

Cardiff City have been quiet on the developments, but could yet return with an improved bid. It's as yet unclear why Derby's similar bid was accepted but staggered payments or the offer to loan players back to Coventry could be a factor.
