Cardiff City remain hopeful over a rapid settlement to the ongoing Langston saga but the subtefuge and one-upmanship appears to persist with CCFC Chief Executive Alan Whitely today claiming that Langston's position is different to the quoted £10m settlement figure rife in the media.
Whitely told WalesOnline today:
"If Hammam was genuine about being prepared to settle for the £10m quoted I strongly believe we could have got a deal done."
"But it appears that isn`t the case and Langston want £15m which is more challenging."
Both parties are clearly hoping to negotiate the best deal, and neither seems against using public opinion and pressure from fans to acheive that. There appears to have been significant shifting of the goalposts on both sides thus far, but if we know anything - it is that neither Vincent Tan nor Hammam/Langston will be held to ransom by using fans pressure!
This debacle has rumbled on long enough, and both parties claim to want a resolution fast. The offer of a life Presidency role to Hammam appears to have been agreed between the parties, though Hammam's reception would surely be decidedly frosty if he were ever to attend a game.
The money, an upfront fee of £10m plus subsequent bonuses for promotion and Premiership survival, is still a matter of contention but with the differences between the parties mere millions against the potential £40 inc interest that could be due under previous agreements, and the lengthy and frustrating legal battle that would ensue should the matter fail to be resolved now.
