Cardiff City Star Mason Will 'Only Get Better'
Cardiff City`s towering young striker Rudy Gestede has paid tribute to Irishman and fellow frontman Joe Mason ahead of the new season with both players hoping to build on impressive debut seasons in South Wales. Both players became more influential as the season went on, and surely made a bigger impact than Malky Mackay could have hoped for.
Mason became our most potent goal threat, and impressed with his technique, temperament and versatility throughout the season. Gestede`s own progress was hampered by persistent hamstring problems but when fit he was a real handful with pace power and excellent aerial ability. While his positioning and accuracy were amiss at times - Gestede certainly improved and caused real problems for every defender he faced.
Gestede agreed that his own performances were overshadowed by his team-mate but also promised to continue to work hard and give everything again this season, adding that a full pre-season programme would be vital to his impact over the course of the season.
Speaking to WalesOnline about his team-mate, Gestede said:
"Joe had a much better season than me for sure,"
"He`s a very good player, he`s got good technique and a good understanding of the game. He does not look physically strong, but he is difficult to get the ball off."
"He is a player who can only get better."
With Scottish International Kenny Miller again expected to spearhead the Bluebirds` attack once again, and Malky Mackay certainly in the market for another striker - youngsters like Gestede and Mason would be anxious about their opportunities decreasing. However, both are certainly capable of competing at the top end of the Championship having proved that last season while Malky Mackay is certainly not averse to blooding youth and giving his starlets chances.
A frontline of Miller, Earnshaw, Gestede, Mason and A.N.Other should have enough firepower to make the Bluebirds a potent attacking force once more this season.
