Cardiff City are apparently set to offer the frankly ludicrous sum of £5.5m for the services of fellow Championship outfit Burnl;ey's star striker Jay Rodriguez.
City were previously linked with an interest, and Malky Mackay is known to be an admirer of Rodriguez. However, the possibility of blowing such a sum of money on one player, albeit a very good one, is absurd.
The Bluebirds are currently saddled with a crippling historic debt. Huge strides have been made to solve these debts, largely via a hefty share conversion strategy to give wealthy Malaysian backer Vincent Tan a controlling stake. Neverthtless, we remain working on a debilitating monthly deficit and whilst a cash injection is certainly on the cards, £5.5m would seem about right for a total transfer budget - not to be blown on one player.
The media reports are more likely to fuel lingering doubts akin to the failed Marvin Sordell, Craig Noone and Matt Phillips transfers where we lodged bids that were undervalued and never likely to be accepted. Apparently, an increased bid for Sordell was accepted by Watford, but Bolton landed the pacy attacker instead.
Silly season is upon us, but this one would seem even more far-fetched than the usual summer fabrications.....
