Cardiff 0-2 Barnet

An impotent, lacklustre performance saw Cardiff City overturned by a hard-working Barnet side. Cardiff rested many first team players and started:

Howard, Gunter, Jacobson, Weston, Johnson, Cooper, Kamara, McKoy, Flood, Campbell, Glombard.

Reserve 'keeper gifted the first goal to Barnet with a ghastly clearance powered hom from 35 yards by Barnet's Kandol.

City rarely looked like equalising and were further punished for poor marking again by Kandol.

If either Campbell or Glombard are to start first team league matches they will need to improve drastically. Campbell looked agonisingly slow and made virtually no impression on a League 2 defence while Glombard looked busy but posed no threat and never looked like scoring. Both these players form the current bench for league games but leaves us looking extremely short on quality striking options.

Cooper made a welcome return from injury but looked way off the pace and ineffective, he will surely play a very limited number of games this season.

Darcy Blake came on at half time to play centre-back, following his right-back appearance at Leeds and looks a well-rounded versatile player (played well for a midfielder!). Chris Gunter looked useful at right back and one to watch for the future.
Johnson and Flood were the only senior players to emerge with credit. Johnson was far from the colossus who kept West Brom and Hartson more under-wraps than a pig in a blanket but did not let himself down.

Flood was the stand-out player and looked way to good for his team-mates. He pushed for his place starting on Saturday.

Joe Jacobson took a blow to the face and looked in a bad way as he left the field but should be OK.

So Cardiff out of the league cup, now ready to 'concentrate on the league'.
