Cardiff City have confirmed that French striker Rudy Gestede has been rewarded after a promising debut season with an extended contract that will keep him at the club for a further 2 years.
Gestede is a gangly striker, and somewhat unpredictable. He wins a great deal in the air, and has had a good impact at times, none moreso tthan his debut after he created our first goal of the season in a 1-0 away win at West Ham.
Gestede does have pace, and is mobile also but doubts have been raised as to his positional awareness and his ability to keep possession. Whilst he does cause problems in the air, he rarely manages to direct his headers to create a chance - though that is also due to our likelihood to play longer balls when he is on the field and as such the midfield are not in support.
Either way, Gestede has become an importnat member of the Bluebirds squad and is certainly capable of making an impact. With City desperate to acheive a play-off place and fight for promotion, I'd like to see Gestede on the bench as he offers a different option whereas Earnshaw has failed to impress and is more similar to Miller/Mason.
It's good to see young players getting a chance, and being rewarded for making a good impression. Rudy has plenty to learn, but has shown a good professionalism and plenty of potential
