Cardiff City Seal Valuable Barnsley Victory

Cardiff City did the necessary in notching a hugely welcome away victory at Barnsley, extending our unbeaten run to seven matches. The goal came midway through the second half when on-loan midfielder Liam Lawrence stooped low to head home at the far post.

In a game of few chances, Peter Whittingham went closest with a wicked free-kick, while Aron Gunnarsson saw a low shot saved by Button. Barnsley started slowly but played some nice football at times, however, the Tykes lacked quality in midfield and failed to test David Marshall.

With our rivals slipping up, this was a great result for the Bluebirds, who stepped up a gear in the second half with substitute Stephen McPhail adding control and extra quality in midfield.

The victory keeps City in sixth but with other results going our way - the Bluebirds play-off hopes were given a boost.
