Cardiff City Concede Alarming Home Goals Tally

Cardiff City are looking to record a much needed win tomorrow when Millwall visit Cardiff City Stadium. The Bluebirds' form has not been good for some time now, and we have regularly struggled to create and finish chances.

However, while the lack of goals has been frustrating and well below City's best, it's the alarming number of goals conceded at home that has really hurt the play-off bid by denying us the ability to grind out narrow 1-0 wins.

Simply, by conceding too many at home, City have put themselves under pressure and dropped points. But for Kevin McNaughton's disasterous own goal against Hull City (or had Turner's seemingly allowable goal stood) - the end result would surely not have been a demoralising defeat by 3 goals in a game we certainly competed in.

Cardiff City have conceded 27 goals at home this season and only 6 sides have more in that Home goals against column with only Leeds United surpassing that total in the top half. In fact, all three sides in the relegation places (Coventry City, Doncaster Rovers and Portsmouth) have better home defences than us.

Keeping a clean sheet is so vital, especially at home. Every team goes through spells when the forwards aren't confident, and the midfield goals can easily dry up. When that happens, you rely on a strong defence and a narrow victory or lucky defelcted goal.

We've been averaging about 2 goals conceded at home over the past few months with 13 goals conceded in 7. Play-off rivals Blackpool and Hull City both hit 3 against us while relegation threatened Coventry City's last gasp equaliser to snatch a 2-2 draw was a real sucker punch.

The back five for Cardiff City are very strong Championship players with Turner and Hudson forming a formidable centre-back pairing. If City are to continue any challenge this season, the Bluebirds must make CCS a very difficult place to visit and that means cutting off the goals - which have been too easy.

That task begins tomorrow against Millwall.
