Crisis Club Portsmouth Sign Ex-Bluebird Etuhu

Cardiff City host Portsmouth on the weekend, looking to consolidate our position in the promotion race after losing ground during the 0-0 draw with Doncaster Rovers.

Portsmouth are a club in trouble, currently in administration and having only a handful of ssenior players to select from. Experienced defender Hermann Hreidarsson left yesterday to join Coventry City - and the club administrators then allowed them to move for another player - ex-Cardiff City loanee Kelvin Etuhu.

Etuhu arrived on loan from Manchester City with a reputation as a lively, powerful striker also coapable of playing on the wing. It was thought he would add some flair, strength and provide the much needed cover for Jay Bothroyd as we sought promotion to the Premiership.

Unfortunately, Etuhu was a flop. He failed to impose himself on any game, and was largely a passenger whenever he was called upon. He looked slightly more comfortable out wide, and was a desperately poor replacement for Bothroyd - as shown when he deputised in the ill-fated play-off final where City were beaten by Blackpool. The score was 1-1 when he came on, but most Bluebirds would rather have been 2-0 down and with Jay fit.

Etuhu joins Portsmouth, and will be available to face his former club on Saturday. However, he has been without a club since his release from prison after a conviction for assault. He will surely take some time to build up match fitness although former players do have a habit of returning to haunt us. Surely not Kelvin Etuhu?!?
