Cardiff City Hang On For Donny Draw

Cardiff City managed to secure a 0-0 away draw at Doncaster Rovers, but were second best throughout and somewhat lucky to escape the Keepmoat with that point.

A dire first half saw Doncaster on top, but failing to create much with the Bluebirds regularly guilty of wasting possession and causing little threat to the Rovers goal.

Rovers had a shout for a penalty against Gunnarsson turned down while Tommy Spurr also had a decent chance but failed to hit the target.

The game was far better after the break with both sides improving considerably. The tempo was higher, but still it was the home side who forced the agenda while Cardiff City were made to ride their luck. Immediately after the restart, El-Hadji Diouf wasted a glorious opportunity when he went clean through but dallied and saw his shot turned wide.

Gunnarsson's shot from distance and a few openings when Kenny Miller nearly broke through were the best City could muster. Perhaps the best opening came when Joe Mason burst forward, but failed to see Miller in space and was brought down before he could either shoot or look up to find his team-mate.

Billy Sharp looked slightly off the pace, perhaps thinking of his impending move away, but he spurned a good chance when through on goal. Marshall dived in feet first, but got the ball despite Sharp's hopeful claims for a penalty.

A couple of Whittingham half-chances, a Ralls effort and a James O'Connor header were all that threatened to break the deadlock but this was a poor game, and one that Cardiff City did not deserve to win. THe Bluebirds played too narrow, and were far too wasteful with passing. A point gained really, somewhat fortunate but given Donny's recent home form, and Middlesbrough's defeat at Burnley - this was no disaster.

Doncaster Rovers 0-0 Cardiff City
