Cardiff City will face Reading at home for the New Year Bank Holiday clash. We spoke to Josh over at Vital Reading to get his thoughts ahead of the game:
b>Back in November, your ambition was a mid-table finish - have expectations changed given your position?
When I answered this question months ago I really felt we didn`t have a chance of getting into the play-offs but its amazing how it all changes round. At the moment it looks like play-offs would be the aspiration and going one better but if we prove we can beat the top teams (like yourselves) then I firmly believe we have a chance of automatic promotion. We have already shown we are capable of matching teams like West Ham and Southampton. I`m just a tad worried we may have peaked too early but if we get play-offs, considering the players we lost and the strength of teams this year, us Reading fans would be very satisfied.
How's your general form?
I suppose we have to look at it and say very good. I really can`t put our change in form down to something, its the same team, same style, we just seem to be putting it in the back of the net now. When we went on a poor run, we weren't necessarily playing bad, we just couldn`t seem to score to match the performance.
Reading player to watch?
I will have to go for defender Alex Pearce. Years ago he was touted the new John Terry, which the majority of Reading fans just laughed at. But the way he has come on and improved this season is unbelievable, he strong in the air, reads the game well and gets on the score sheet quite regularly too for a defender.
I've heard whispers Jimmy Kebe could be on his way to us - your thoughts?
Haven`t heard anything on that front, but it is a well known fact he will be leaving in January or in the summer after rejecting our final contract offer. If he was likely to join anyone, he would probably go back to France or the Premier League but you never know. I think despite your better odds of promotion over ours, I think Kebe could see it as a sideways move but if you pay him the wages, anything can happen.
Prediction for the game?
Had you have asked me this question a few months ago, I would have probably predicted a heavy loss but considering our recent form, I think we could scrape a draw.
any thanks to Josh for his views.
