McNaughton Offers Huge Boost For Cardiff City

Cardiff City have been handed a huge boost ahead of the clash with Nottingham Forest with the news that Kevin McNaughton has overcome the calf problem that saw him limp off early during the 1-1 away draw at Watford.

The Scottish right-back is a superb defender at Championship level, and a very consistent performer for the Bluebirds. However, he is also able to support in attack - an ability very important given our current 4-5-1 formation which sees Don Cowie operating in a 'tucked-in' role. McNaughton is able to overlap and provide the width needed to support the system.

Darcy Blake stood in well as a substitute, but whilst solid - he does not offer the forward presence that McNaughton can. The Scot is often frustrated by his final delivery but is an ever-willing runner and provided the drive missing from Blake and fellow full-back Paul Quinn's game.

McNaughton has often struggled with back and hamstring niggles, injuries that have thankfully stayed away this term. That is partly down to a new fitness regimen (including regular yoga sessions) and the input of new medical and performance director Richard Collinges.

McNaughton will undergo a fitness test tomorrow to ensure he is ready to play but his progress this week has pleased the coaches and he looks set to take up the right back position for the trip to Forest.
