Former Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra is once again suffering with off field worries after moving to pastures new over the summer in an attempt to regain his previous goalscoring instincts.
Chopra joined Ipswich Town for a paltry fee of just £1m, however, it was clear that Chopra's head was not quite right with the Bluebirds and most fans wished him well in leaving. As the club's highest wearner, the management appeared to decide that he was too much of a risk and we brought in 2-3 others using those wages.
After a good and goalscoring start to his Portman Road career, Chopra has fallen away somewhat despite scoring a nodded goal in the 2-2 draw on his CCS return. He was dropped for Town's previous game against Crystal Palace amid concerns over his personal life. Manager Paul Jewell claimed:
'Without going into too much detail, I know what's going on day to day with them and we don't like to shout out about it.'
'Chops has missed a lot of training - in fact, he's only really been playing matches of late.'
'And, like all people, footballers have problems in life away from work, too.'
It's such a shame for Chopra, because at his peak he is a formidable player in the Championship, who held his own with Sunderland in the Premiership despite a lack of chances. However, his problems have failed to subside despite his move away.
The break-up of his ill-fated marriange to Heather Swan, follwooed by reports of drinking and gambling troubles saw Chopra's immense talent in question and he has rarely looked the same sharp and lightning-fast striker who showed incredible craft and intellegence when scoring for fun for Cardiff City.
