Penalty Drama As Cardiff City Beat Leicester

Cardiff City Stadium again played host to a nerve-wracking penalty shoot-out, and again the Foxes of Leicester City went home disappointed, this time after a 2-2 AET (7-6p) win for the Bluebirds.

In an even first half, Don Cowie's header looked to have given us the advantage when he capitalised on a Leicester defensive mix-up. However, a rare error by Darcy Blake allowed Steven Howard to turn home just before the break.

Leicester always looked dangerous against the tiring Dekel Keinan and Paul Quinn - neither of whom has had much gametime and Lloyd Dyer was on hand to fire a low shot past Marshall midway through the second half.

The goal of the game came minutes from the end, and RUDY GESTEDE's first for Cardiff City sent the game to extra time. The powerful Frenchman turned and shot from 18 yards, beating Chris Weale and bringing City level.

Tired legs on both sides saw a lack of quality during extra time, and penalties always seemed likely. There were some excellent spotkicks from both sides with neither 'keeper given much chance. However, Leicester blinked first when sub Gelson Fernandes fired over, allowing stand-in captain Paul Quinn to send the Bluebirds into round 4.
