Former Cardiff City Star's Fond Wembley Memories

Former Cardiff City star Joe Ledley will surely be a part of Wales' starting XI tonight as Gary Speed's men look to build on an encouraging 2-1 win over Montenegro with another good performance against England.

Ledley has fond memories of Wembley, having featured in each of Cardiff City's three recent trips. It was Ledley's hooked effort against Barnsley that saw the Bluebirds into the FA Cup final - a game in which we lost 1-0 to Portsmouth. However, Ledley's individual performance was exemplary as he gave England right-back Glen Johnson a torrid time.

The third trip also ended in defeat, in what was to be Ledley's final appearance for his boyhood club. City qwent down 3-2 to an exuberant Blackpool outfit in the Championship play-off final, though ledley again found the scoresheet after racing clear down the left and clipping an effort past Matt Gilks in the Seasiders' goal.

Speaking of his fond Wembley memories, Ledley told the SW Echo:

"Hopefully I can keep my goal-scoring record up at Wembley, but I am going to have to do it against a great England team."

"I`ve got mixed emotions about Wembley to be honest. Obviously the FA Cup semi-final was great, but then we lost the final and then we lost the play-off final too which was very hard to take."

"The only thing is that I have managed to score some goals there so that was the good part of it."

Wales will be hard pushed to take anything from the game, especially with England remaining unbeatedn in qualifiers to date. However, the emergence and continued fitness of young stars like Ledley, Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey does show promise and hopefully Speed's Wales can put in a good showing.
