Mackay: No 'Knee-Jerk' Cardiff City Signings

Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has been forced to wait before adding more new faces to his under-strength squad but confirms he is still looking, and when he does move - it will be for the right player, and one who has been appropriately scouted and assessed.

Speaking at yesterday's press conference, Mackay told reporters:

"We're enquiring about players and are in negotiations with clubs and players. we'll have to wait and see but it has to be the right type of player and person. Two players would be great and four would be fantastic but they've got to be either as good or better than what we've got or potential players we can develop."

"I still have to strengthen the squad and I could have a late night on the deadline but I don't fancy a knee-jerk reaction on a player I haven't looked at. If it happens late it's because it's a player I want and the deal just takes that long."

Amongst those players most desperately needed are a pacy wide player, a powerful striker and a central midfielder, though doubts remain as to the quality of our defensive options.

Any moves for new players is heavily dependent on the Premiership 25-man squads which are due to be formalised by 1st September. Managers will be finalising those plans and make a decision as to which can leave. Failing that, the loan window remains open for another month and could be a viable and low cost option for Mackay to strengthen.
