More positives, But Defeat Again For Cardiff City

Another friendly, another narrow defeat for Cardiff City, this time at the hands of a hardworking Bournemouth side who took advantage of some sloppy moments for the Bluebirds to record a 2-1 win.

Whilst a defeat to lower league opposition, the key for pre-season friendlies is fitness and match practise. That was always going to be even more important this year with Malky Mackay having to re-build an entire first team after the mass exodus.

Bournemouth's goals included a fine long range effort by Scott Malone. Thwe midfield battle was clearly won by the home side - and thats an area City need to improve on.

Former Aberdeen man Steve Lovell then doubled the lead, finishing neatly past Marshall but City did get going from that point on with new signing Andy Taylor firing an emphatic low effort into the net and Whittingham striking the post.

New recruit Filip Kiss got a run-out and looked tidy enough while promising young striker Joe Mason again looked lively in the absence of quality service from midfield.

Positives to be taken, but City must start gelling as a team. The entire Bluebirds line-up were guilty of a slow start, but the midfield remains a problem area with little creativity on show. The arrivals of Kenny Miller and Rudy Gestade will give more options in attack while Mackay will be desperately hoping the added pace of Earnshaw and Craig Conway (both currently injured) will provide some fresh inpetus in the final third.
