Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has now been at the club for over 2 weeks, but as the players prepare to return for pre-season training - the Bluebirds has a worryingly threadbare look to it with only one new addition since the previous season ended.
City have barely enough players to put out a starting XI, especially when you consider we have Gyepes, Gerrard, Hudson, Keinan, Blake, McNaughton, Quinn and Naylor - all of whom are defenders!
During his 2 weeks in charge, Mackay has managed to bring in flying winger Craig Conway on a free transfer from Dundee United. Conway was in demand, and comes highly regarded. He is a welcome addition, but the lack of movement since that deal is causing concern.
Deals have appeared close for Andrew Taylor (Middlesbrough) and David Goodwillie (Dundee United) but there are plenty of suitors for both targets and we may yet miss out. Both CCFC and Robert Earnshaw are keen on a deal, but talks are far from concluded.
There is of course plenty of time left for Mackay to strengthen his squad, and it remains rational to keep patient and try to get his top transfer targets in. However, it's a huge boost to have the majority of your squad together for pre-season - especially with so many of last year's players now departed. Allowing time for the team to 'gel' can be hugely beneficial.
It seems likely that players and agents have been holding out to assess interest and get the best deals over the past few weeks. Hopefully, the return to training and expiry of contracts today will spark a glut of new signings - we certainly need them!
