Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay is focusing on the major squad re-building job necessary at the CCS but has also decided to asseble a new backroom team, ending the association of many longserving staff members.
Terry Burton is the highest ranked casualty, Dave Jones' former assistant is highly regarded in the game but Mackay has opted against using his experience and knowledge of the club. Burton's future was always in doubt, especially when Mackay attempted to persuade former assistant Sean Dyche to join him, only for Dyche to take up Mackay's previous post as Watford manager.
As well as Burton, first team coach Paul Wilkinson will also be surplus to requirements while Dave Jones' close ally Alex Armstrong, previously the fitness coach with the Bluebirds is also to leave.
Officially, all three are placed on 'gardening leave' as per the termination clauses in their respective contracts.
Many fans feel a complete top-to-bottom overhaul was needed to allow Mackay to start from fresh. It was always likely Mackay would prefer to assemble his own team - a job that is already underway. It is now clear that the entire club is being run and managed by inexperienced individuals - from the Malaysian owners, youthful manager Mackay and CEO Gethin Jenkins, also a relative newcomer to football club management.
A fresh approach and removal from the turgid and rigid direction of the Dave Jones era could be exactly what Cardiff City FC needs....
