Don't Be Fooled, Burnley Affair Was A Shocker

Cardiff City 'got out of jail` to some extent when Craig Bellamy got to McPhail`s pass ahead of Burnley 'keeper Brian Jensen and poked over him to rescue a point for City in the final game of the regular season. A draw away at Burnley is no mean result and the Clarets can boast some fantastic players - Eagles, Rodriguez and Saturday`s man-of-the-match Jack Cork.

The creditable draw has taken away somewhat from what was in fact a dismal performance from Cardiff City, characterised by laboured build-up play, sloppy passing and a general lack of spark throughout the team. Mark Hudson struggled badly until replaced, while the midfield was largely anonymous with Olofinjana particularly wasteful of possession.

The goal was a really poor one to concede as a hopeful long ball split the static defence. It was front to back in one pass, Rodriguez collected under no pressure and finished neatly. If Burnley had anything to play for, they would have continued to press their clear advantage, and we would surely have lost the game.

The second half, Cardiff City tried hard but all too often it was slow, lacking quality and easily defended by Burnley who had only to keep their shape, press the ball carrier and wait for a mis-placed pass or hopeful chip into no-man`s land. It was in fact worse attacking play than against Middlesbrough.

The late goal chanced the result, and hopefully the morale in the squad. There has been much disappointment within the players and fans this week, but the fans` reactions would have been so much worse had we lost If we`re to have any chance in the play-offs, Cardiff City must improve all over the pitch - hopefully Bellamy`s late strike will provide the impetus required. Reading will be far less forgiving than Burnley.
