Cardiff City looked to be heading into second place with just two games to play as we held on for a tense 1-0 win away at Preston North End. Our promotion rivals Norwich City looked to have been held by Derby County after twice surrendering a lead, until a late Canaries winner (even by their standards) saw Carrow Road erupt.
Paul Lambert's Norwich have made an art form of scoring late goals, as CCFC fans will remember as Russel Martin netted a stoppage time leveller to deny us a win back in January (how crucial that goal now?!?). Today, Simeon Jackson scored from close range in the sixth minute of injury time, after a minimum of five had been stipulated by the referee.
Those crucial few seconds could prove critical in the promotion race, and credit to Norwich City for taking the lead for the third time in the match. Their never-say-die attitude is remarkable and they have netter injury time goals in over 10 matches this season.
In fairness, Cardiff City did our job today - a win away at relegation threatened Preston North End was key for us, and few will have expected anything other than a home win for NCFC against lowly Derby County - a club seemingly safe from relegation, but lacking in quality and cohesion. We beat them 4-1 earlier this month at the CCS and it seemed a long shot for them to get anything at Carrow Road.
Two fixtures remaining, and with Reading's shock 2-3 defeat by Sheffield United, it now looks like a 2 horse race between Cardiff City and Norwich City as to who goes up automatically - The Canaries hold the advantage but it's not over yet......
