Late Goals Crucial To Championship Standings

Late Goals Crucial To Championship Standings

The Championship table required a total re-write between 4.45 and 5pm yesterday afternoon after a number of late goals had a massive effect on the league standings.

Cardiff City started the proceedings with an 85th minute strike to see over Scunthorpe United courtesy of Seyi Olofinjana. That looked a massive three points, especially with several of our rivals dropping points across the country.

However, Olofinjana's strike failed to open up a gap for us as fellow promotion rivals struck even later to ensure we merely kept pace with our rivals.

Swansea City completed a remarkable comeback to beat Middlesbrough with James Beattie's low strike deep into injury time sealing a 4-3 win for the Swans. That after trailing 3-1 earlier in the match.

Norwich City's Grant Holt also left it until the 4th minute of injury time but snuck home at the far post to grab a win for the Canaries over Reading.

Though it didn't affect the promotion race, there were injury time goals elsewhere with Kevin Lisbie (Millwall), Stefan Iversen (Crytal Palace) and Jakob Melis (Barnsley) all scoring after the 90 minute mark.
