Burkey Boost For Bluebirds
Cardiff City's tricky winger Chris Burke has had a frustrating season to date and has recently found himself outside the first team squad and relegated to bench duty.
The Scotting wideman has not consistently shown the form of last season, where he was a constant threat providing a combination of pace, trickery and creativity. He has shown glimpses of his capability, but looks short of form and confidence.
One such example is the recent home game against Reading, substitute Burke had a glorious opportunity to put us ahead, but blazed his shot over from 12 yards with the goal gaping. Similarly, against Swansea City on Sunday - Burke was played in by a beautiful Ramsey reverse pass only to fire a low cross without looking and the chances was wasted. He had more time than he realised and lacked the composure of last year to apply the finish.
Peter Whittingham appears first choice on the right at present, with Burke and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas providing strong back-up. Those two will likely fight it out for places when Ramsey returns to Arsenal seeing Peter Whittingham, or possibly Steve McPhail, replacing the Gunners youngster.
Bluebirds fans will have been glad to see Chris Burke on the scoresheet in yesterdays' reserve team game against Newport County. It was a strong City line-up with the likes of Burke, McPhail, Parkin etc and it was Burke who sealed the game in the second half as the Bluebirds won 2-1.
Hopefully, the goal will give Burke a lift and restore some confidence. He remains a very dangerous winger and has plenty to offer in the run-in and hopefully promotion push.
