Rae Dismay At Lack Of Bluebirds Chances
Cardiff City midfielder Gavin Rae is weighing up his options in a make-or-break January transfer window for the Scottish International.
Rae has barely featured for the Blauebirds this season, and is out of contract in the summer. It seems almost certain that he will be leaving the Bluebirds but manager Dave Jones wants to keep him until then as back-up for any injury or suspension worries.
Despite playing both FA Cup games against Stoke City, Rae would appear to be behind Olofinjana, Drinkwater, Whittingham and McPhail for the midfield berths while youngsters Darcy Blake and Aaron Wildig have also featured there and provide cover.
Rae told Wales Online:
"I`m not really sure what is going to happen, I`m under contract. I spoke to the manager last week and he said he wants me to stay and, to be fair, I would like to stay and try to help the lads get promoted.
But it`s difficult because you`ve got to weigh up that with your desire to play as well."
"I said to him I`m happy to stay, if I can be a part of something, but I`d like to play a part in more games."
"I`ve had a few sniffs from elsewhere, but it all depends if the move suits me and suits Cardiff. But at the moment the gaffer wants me here so it`s difficult to know what to do."
Personally I can't see Rae featuring for more than a few minutes here and there so a loan move would seem a viable option allowing him to re-evaluate his options as a free agent over the summer.
However, with Steve McPhail's injury yet to be fully assessed, Jones would be reluctant to let Rae go and he could yet spend his last 5 months as a Bluebird on the bench.
