Bothroyd Turns Down Newcastle Utd Move ?

Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd has turned down a move to an un-named Premiership club, preferring instead to continuing to help the Bluebirds fight for promotion.

The club is question have had a bid turned down and is likely to be Newcastle United, credited with a long-standing and public interest with new Toon manager Alan Pardew confirming the former Arsenal youngster was a potential target.

New England cap Bothroyd's contract expires during the summer, and while he has been offered a new deal - he seems set to wait until the end of the season and re-assess his options.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Dave Jones said:

'I had a long chat with Jay yesterday and I'm sure Jay won't mind me saying - Jay wants to stay at this football club.'

'Even the club we spoke about, Jay says he doesn't want to go to.'

'We said no and Jay knows about it, because his contract is up in June and people think they can come and take him for a measly amount of money. It's not worth what we are trying to do.'

I could be wrong, and it may instead be the likes of Blackburn (but they've just signed Santa Cruz) or Fulham - who have both also shown interest. However, it's been Newcastle Utd who have been strongly linked of late. Either way, this is good news for Cardiff City who have already added big Jon Parkin to an already strong forward line.

Bothroyd has consistently stressed his determination to stay with the Bluebirds and push for promotion. He appears to have backed that up despite a potentially lucrative move to the Premiership.
