Cardiff City have reportedly offered key striker Jay Bothroyd a new contract, according to Sky Sports.
The Bluebirds' most influential player is out of contract at the end of this season, and is attracting strong interest after a fine season so far. Fulham, Stoke City and even Chelsea have shown interest while there has also been further interest from Spain.
Cardiff City have been speaking with Bothroyd and his agent for some time, but it was understood that Bothroyd would opt to see out his current deal before re-assessing his options over the summer, most likely depending on whether the Blubeirds acheived promotion.
However, Dave Jones has claimed there has been absolutely no contact regarding Bothroyd, and it is possible Bothroyd could be tempted by a pay rise now in a new deal which could include a minimum fee release clause to allow him to talk to interested clubs willing to match a pre-determined fee.
Jay has repeatedly stated he is happy at the club, and is purely concentrating on his football rather than off-field situations. If Sky Sports are correct in that a formal contract offer has been made - it seems likely that the player and his representative have at least indicated an offer would be considered. That would be a big boost to Cardiff, in keeping Jay for the current promotion push - and also ensuring we get a fair price for his in the summer rather than losing the former Arsenal man for nothing.
