Cardiff City look to have made their first foray into the transfer market after giant striker Jon Parkin completed a medical and will join from Preston North End. The burly forward joins as cover for the important figure of Jay Bothroyd, who has been exceptional since joining from Wolves and become a pivotal figure at the Bluebirds. We have badly lacked cover for him, and Jones has at last moved to provide a natural target man as an alternative.
Parkin is a huge presence, a strong aerial threat and he can bully defenders - as we have found out to our cost in the past. He can score goals, but it is his physique that sets the basis of his style.
Whilst fans are undoubtedly pleased that we do have an alternative aerial presence, doubts remain as to the credentials of Parkin as a striker capable of spearheading an attack with realistic hopes and aspirtions for promotion - can you see him playing in the Premiership?
Fans have already began the custmoary complaints that follow whenever we sign a player. Many doubted Bothroyd's abilities, while Bellamy too had his doubters despite his stellar reputation.
What are your feelings on the acquisition of Parkin? Is he a means to an end, capable of mising things up and getting a few goals to help us get promoted? Or is he somewhat of a donkey, route one and destined to play in the lower reaches of the Championship?
Have your say. You can vote in our poll on the lower left of this page. Wither way, Parkin looks to be the newest Bluebird, and whatever your thoughts on the 'beast' - he certainly deserves a chance, and our support as we all pull together to push the club forwards towards promotion.
