Cardiff City Set To Sign 'Beast' Jon Parkin

Cardiff City are set to sign giant striker Jon Parkin from Preston North End, with the target man in South Wales this afternoon for his medical having agreed terms on a deal.

Parkin would seem the long awaited 'back-up' for Jay Bothroyd after the Bluebirds have repeatedly struggled to adapt in Jay's absence. Parkin certainly offers an aerial presence and is an immense figure.

The former Stoke City man has caused us problems in the past, and even managed to comfortably outpace Gabor Gyepes to score the third of Preston's goals in a 6-0 humiliation 2 seasons ago.

We have certainly lacked a target man over the past few seasons, and Parkin does offer a strong presence. However, his capture is unlikely to go down well with everybody, he certainly lacks pace and his goalscoring record is not overly impressive. Either way, Dave Jones has identified him as the man to cover for Bothroyd and Parkin is definitely capble of 'mixing it up' as a much needed plan B for those games we are unable to pass and create chances as we'd like.
