Cardiff City Have Illness Concerns - Jones

Cardiff City boss Dave Jones has revealed that there are some fitness concerns within the squad ahead of the visit of Coventry City on Boxing Day.

Jones revealed there were a couple of injury doubts currently under investigation pprior to the game, and also commented that there had been some illness concerns that could also affect player availability. Speaking on Talksport this morning, Jones said:

'There's one or two [players] we'll check on.'

'There's also a virus going round, but it's the same for all clubs. I've always been a believer that if there's a problem for one, it's a chance for another. You've always got to fill the shirt.'



Jones did not elaborate on who the players under assessment were, but Chris Riggott is likely to undergo a fitness test to make sure he is OK to feature. The former Middlesbrough man is in line to make his Bluebirds debut after returning from lengthy rehabilitation on a knee injury. However, after such a long period out, he is severely lacking in match fitness and the Bluebirds staff are wary of aggrevating any injuries.

Jay Bothroyd is also likely to return after missing the previous game with a hamstring injury. The damage was minor, but he was a doubt for the clash with Burnley but has appreciated the extra rest time this week and is likely to start the game.
