Cardiff City Given Gunnarsson Boost

Cardiff City Given Gunnarsson Boost

Cardiff City have been handed a timely boost with the news that Coventry City will not be appealing against the red card handed to influential midfielder Aron Gunnarsson following his dismissal during a controversial 2-1 defeat by Norwich City.

Gunnarsson was give a straight red card for violent conduct after a two footed lunge. The tackle did not look all that bad, but both feet were off the floor and he was automatically handed a 3 match ban. Coventry City have opted not to appeal, and he will miss the Boxing Day clash.

Gunnarsson is a highly talented player, and capable of causing problems for the Bluebirds midfield, a disorganised bunch at the best of times. City have struggled for midfield balance, and have a tendency to be outmuscled in the centre of the park with Olofinjana sitting deep, and players like Whittingham, Drinkwater and/or McPhail outnumbered and outplayed.

Coventry City are a dangerous proposition, with McSheffrey in particular often causing us serious problems. Cardiff City are in dire form and will be feeling under pressure to get the season back on track so any boost is welcome.
