Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra is one of the most natural goalscorers outside the football league, and would be an asset to any club in the Championship with his pace, movement and goals. He is a big player for us Bluebirds but is ambitious and definitely looking to be playing in the Premiership next season.
QPR currently lead the table, and are definitely strong contenders for promotion. Manager Neil Warnock is an admirer of Chopra and pushed hard to bring him to the club during the transfer window, when Chopra spoke out at the dubious CCFC financial situation and lack of activity in the transfer window.
QPR had been thought to retain an interest, and with their strong financial backing will likely be handed a decent transfer kitty to spend in January. However, manager Neil Warnock was asked about the prospects of signing the former Newcastle United man and appeared to rule out any move.
Warnock told the Fulham & Hammersmith Chronicle:
'I`ve got nothing against Michael, he`s a fine player. And were he to become available at a knockdown price - it would be worth a look.'
'But he`s better suited to a 4-4-2 set-up and we don`t really play that here.'
'I think once our people find out what he would cost including wages, and I`m guessing at anything upwards of a £3million transfer, they`ll think again.'
Warnock is no stranger to mind games and politics in football, so his comments may yet be a ruse to mask his intentions as he considers Chopra the number one target for QPR. However, with Cardiff City reluctant to sell, and the Bluebirds also gunning for promotion - a move does not look likely.
Chopra has found himself relegated to the substitutes bench of late, but made an impact as a substitute against Preston and will be looking to reclaim his place and get back amongst the goals soon.
