Cardiff City defender Gabor Gyepes was not present as the Bluebirds faought back from a goal down to draw 1-1 against Reading in midweek. The Hungarian was replaced by youngster Darcy Blake in the starting XI, while Gyepes was also a notable ommission from the bench, despite City only naming 6 substitutes.
Prior to the game, it was reported that Gyepes was to be 'rested', and certainly Dave Jones did not hold back in blaming his defender for conceding the goal against Swansea City - personally, I thought Gyepes, Hudson, Heaton and Drinkwater could have done better - so was surprised and somewhat disappointed to see Jones lay the blame solely at the feet of one man - especially when the manager himself made several glaring errors.
Perhaps Gyepes is injures. In fact I hope that is the case and not that Jones has yet again fallen out with a player and we are to see Gyepes ostricised in the same way that Purse, Thompson, Quinn et al have found in the past.
If Gyepes was fit, and was dropped - it is sheer madness not to include him on the bench. If Hudson or Blake (himslef inexperienced at centre-half) was injured or sent off, we had no cover whatsoever. It was Jones' decision to allow Anthony Gerrard to leave on loan, while the ever-injured Chris Riggott is certainly not ready to play. Kevin McNaughton is the only other option, but he was also ruled out through injury.
I really hope Jones is not jeopardising points, and our promotion bid in order to win a personal dispute with Gyepes. There is no strong evidence to suggest this as yet, but also no indication why Gyepes was omitted.
