Cardiff City's in-form striker Jay Bothroyd is sure to attract interest from the Premiership after a blistering start to the season, coupled with the fact he could be available on a free transfer come the summer. That means the Bluebirds may be forced to accept a cut price deal for the much travelled frontman in January, or risk losing him for nothing.
One team reportedly keen on moving for Bothroyd is Birmingham City. ironically, we only signed Jay because Birmingham hi-jacked a move for Marcus Bent at the last minute. Bent was set to sign, but had his head turned and ended up in Birmingham meaning Dave Jones turned to a £300k move for Bothroyd instead - a superb piece of business.
Birmingham City presumably spend a fairm amount of money sending their scouts to watch the Bluebirds, in recent times they have been strongly linked for moves for Burke and Ross McCormack, whilst they also secured a £5m deal for Roger Johnson - who has excelled in the Premiership.
Cardiff City have offered a new deal to Bothroyd, who is considering his future. He has been able to settle at the club better than any of his other employers and clearly enjoys playing for Dave Jones and his staff. A number of other stars have recently signed up to new long term contracts (Whittingham, Burke, McNaughton, Blake) - hopefully Jay will also see his immediate future at Cardiff City, and will play for us in the Premiership next season...
