Former Norwich City striker Iwan Roberts has urged the Canaries not to focus solely on shutting out their former player Craig Bellamy when they visit CCS this weekend. Welshman Roberts lauded the Bluebirds attacking threat as 'awesome` but singled out Jay Bothroyd as the key, rather than big-name signing Craig Bellamy - his former strike partner.
Speaking to the Norwich Evening News, Roberts (who regularly commentates on CCFC matches for BBC Radio Wales) said:
"Cardiff are awesome going forward - maybe to the detriment over the rest of the park. "Norwich can get at them attacking-wise, but when you`ve got the likes of Bellamy, Bothroyd, who`s been a revelation for the last two years at Cardiff, Michael Chopra and Peter Whittingham, they`re a very good side going forward."
"For one reason or another Dave Jones really has got the best out of Jay. People go on about Craig, but I think Bothroyd is the one Dave couldn`t replace, he`s that important to them. He`s a good size, he`s got pace and he`s good in the air, two good feet and he really is a talented player."
Bothroyd really is the pinnacle of our side, and brings all the other aspects together. We struggle to play with any fluency without him, and the creative forward has also found a ruthless scoring edge and currently tops the Championship scoring charts.
In the powerful yet classy Bothroyd, we have a good foil for the tricky and pacy threats of Chopra, Bellamy and Burke. There had been doubts as to whether Bellamy would feature, after playing 90 minutes at Leeds, on the back of 70 at Coventry City. However, indications this week are that he is fit and ready to take on his former club, where he spent almost two seasons before leaving to join the Sky Blues in a £6.5m deal.
