Cardiff City make the long trip North to face Leeds United tonight, looking to continue the recent good run of results and possibly join QPR at the summit of the Championship.
Winning the game is undoubtedly the aim, within our abilities. While the likes of Chopra, Bothroyd and Whittingham are established Championship performers with experience and goalscoring insticts, Leeds are the new boys and possess a strong squad who eased to promotion last season.
Vice-captain at Elland Road is Jonny Howson and the talented midfielder sees no reason why his side should fear the Bluebirds potent attacking force claiming his team-mates are the equals of us in terms of talent. Howson told the Yorkshire Evening Post:
'They've got bigger names than us, more well-known names nationwide, but in terms of ability I wouldn't say they've got a better squad than us.'
'On paper, some people may think so but in this league you can beat any team. We've only been in the Championship for a short time but we've found that out quickly. We know we can get a result on the night.'
To be honest, I disagree with Howson's statement and think that ability-wise - Cardiff City are better than Leeds United at the moment. However, there is certainly no gulf in class, and Cardiff City have some known flaws. Defensively, we can be extremely slow and frail - while the set-piece has caused real problems.
We are dependent too heavily on Bothroyd and Olofinjana, and struggle to cope if not allowed to play the game our way. Tonight's game will not be decided on paper, nor just by the quality of individual players. The Bluebirds have to start well, keep tight at the back and be patient to create good attacking platforms for Bellamy, Chopra and Burke etc.
If we play anything but our best, Leeds United will take the points. It will be a big game for the Whites, against promotion candidates and a chance for their players and fans to show they belong at the business end of the Championship. A difficult, but intruiging match in prospect.
