Cardiff City Agree New McPhail Contract

Cardiff City midfielder Stephen McPhail has signed a 2 year extension to his current contract and looks set to stay at the club for the foreseeable future. His current deal had been due to expire in the summer, meaning he would have been free to discuss his future with other clubs from January, and leave on a free transfer.

Cardiff City are keen to avoid any more Ledley sagas, with contract negotiations continuing for long periods only for players to leave for no fee. Whittingham, Blake and McNaughton have all agreed extensions recently and McPhail becomes the next to commit his future to the club.

McPhail has not been showing his best form so far this season, and is yet to show the creative flair and quality of passing he can offer. His role has been assumed by Peter Whittingham recently, with the likes of Darcy Blake, Seyi Olofinjana and Danny Drinkwater impressing in midfield. However, the squad depth is sure to play a part over the season, and McPhail remains an excellent option to bring in, either starting or from the bench.
