Cardiff City Return Marks 100-up For Millwall Ace

Cardiff City play host to Millwall this weekend and will welcome a former player back to the capital in Lions goalkeeper David Forde. The Irishman has been ever-present for Millwall thus far this season, keeping clean sheets against Hull City and Reading but conceding an embarrassing 6 in a recent thrashing by Watford.

Forde had previously played in South Wales for Barry Town, before he joined the Bluebirds on a free transfer after leaving Derry City in Ireland. He arrived mid season in the 2006/07 season as understudy to Bluebirds number one Neil Alexander, once it became clear that Mark Howard was not good enough for this level. The Scotsman, now at Rangers, was out of contract in the summer and an ugly public row erupted over the terms of the agreement. Dave Jones refused to budge and Alexander was dropped, handing Forde his chance to impress.

His debut saw an emphatic 4-1 win over Preston North End, courtesy of a Chopra brace and a strike apiece for Whittingham and Roger Johnson. However, the next game saw defeat for the Bluebirds with a 2-1 loss inflicted by Sheffield Wednesday - Forde was at fault for Deon Burton`s goal as his parry fell kindly to the Owls striker - a load chant of 'Scotland`s Number One` followed the mistake and Forde`s mobility and kicking came under scrutiny.

Forde certainly was not a disaster for Cardiff City, but played in only 7 games for the Bluebirds, conceding 8 goals and failing to record a single clean sheet. Loan spells at Luton Town and Bournemouth followed before a free transfer move to Millwall in June 2008.

Saturday will see Forde make his one hundredth appearance for the London club, hopefully it will not be an enjoyable occasion with the likes of Bothroyd, Burke, Keogh and maybe even Bellamy making life difficult for the former Cardiff City goalkeeper.
