Cardiff City Tame The Tigers

Cardiff City overcame some late injury problems to beat Hull City 2-0 at CCS with Olofinjana and substitute Gavin Rae getting the goals.

The Bluebirds were without Bellamy, Chopra, Bothroyd and Drinkwater through injury meaning Koumas and McPhail were handed their first league starts of the season. Garcia forced the first save but his bobbling effort was dealt with by Marshall.

Olofinjana was proving effective in midfield and powered past Anthony Gerrard to meet Whittingham's free-kick. Shortly afterwards, a brilliant McNaughton run saw the diminutive right-back hit the post - Duke with a fingertip save to thwart the Scotsman.

Koumas fired wide from a free-kick as the Bluebirds finished the half much the stronger. After the break, Hull altered their formation and came right back into the game, enjoying plenty of possession but failing to create chances. Jay Simpson was denied by Hudson and Gyepes simultaneously but Marshall was reduced to collecting loose balls.

At the other end, Keogh was continuing to work hard but finding life tough as a lone striker. Koumas fired inches wide from 20 yards before Keogh provided a good knock-down for Whittingham who found subsitute Aaron Wildig - his excellent reserve pass was collected and poked home by Gavin Rae to seal the win.

This was not a classic by any means but City did the job asked of them and came out with three hard-earned points, and a clean sheet. The Tigers were disappointing and looked short on confidence - though Anthony Gerrard did well, eclipsing Daniel Ayala the on-loan Liverpool youngster.
