McNaughton Wins Well Deserved Scotland Call

Cardiff City defender Kevin McNaughton has won a much deserved and long awaited recall to the Scotland squad for the forthcoming Euro 2012 qualifying double-header against Lithuania and Liechtenstein on September 3 and 7 respectively.

'Super Kev' has been a magnificent acquisition for Cardiff City since arriving from Aberdeen on a free trasnfer. He has been out most consistent performer over many seasons and is an integral member of the team - the first of this years squad to put pen to paper on a new deal.

He last played for Scotland over two years ago, and despite maintaining his form - has not been called up since. He has been frustrated at being left on the fringes ever since a call-up in September 2006 - he picked up an injury that very week in a brilliant 4-0 win over Wolves, but has found International call-ups very difficult to come by ever since. Primarily a right-back, McNaughton has been effectively utilised on the left side of defence, while he has proved more-than-able to deputise as an emergency centre-half when required. Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall was also named in the squad.

Congratulations Kevin - please come back fit !
