Cardiff City have an impressive looking frontline after the addition of Craig Bellamy to the likes of Bothroyd and Chopra but have so far not brought in a suitable altrnative to perform the 'Bothroyd' role in case of injury/suspension to the cultured big man.
We saw all last season, most natably in the play-off defeat, that Bothroyd is absolutely integral to the way we play. After he was substituted, we were bereft of ideas and looked incredibly ordinary. A potential move for Jon Stead appears to have fallen through and the Bluebirds appear to have turned our attentions to another seasoned Championship striker Rob Hulse.
Hulse is currently with Derby County, but missed our victory at Pride Park through injury. Rams boss Nigel Clough is looking to hake-up his squad and could be tempted, but still regards Hulse as a crucial member of their squad.
Cardiff City have enquired about Hulse, and sounded out Derby County about a price and possibility of a swap deal involving Ross McCormack. The diminutive striker has been frustrated by a lack of opportunities and has seen the arrivals of Koumas and Craig Bellamy further diminish his chances of earning a regular starting position.
A fee of £1m would likely be needed, or an agreement over McCormack's value if Clough is interested in the Scotland striker. Either way, the Bluebirds attacking options are already very strong, and would have a more balanced look if competition for the target man role was added. Hulse fits the bill, and could be an option - almost 8 years after we first tried to sign him - as a potential partner for Robert Earnshaw!
