Four Subs! We've Only Got Four Subs !!
Cardiff City kickedoff the new season with a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United. A satisfactory result given the off-field uncertainty which has haunted us over the past year and seen a transfer embargo imposed on the club.
We finally got the embargo lifted, thanks to further investment from TG and were thankfully able to register Danny Drinkwater - who made his debut. Tom Heaton now provides goalkeeping cover, while Jason Koumas remains lacking in match fitness.
Key mdifelder Stephen McPhail is still missing with an ankle injury meaning we are further depleted. Jay Bothroyd also played despite struggling previously with a hamstring niggle.
That meant that Cardiff City's teamsheet was desperately short and Jones opted to name only four substitutes. A pretty embarrassing state of affairs for a Championship club with promotion hopes.
Nevertheless, the quality is there. Heaton obviously covers the goalkeeping department while Anthony Gerrard was unlucky not to start. Adam Matthews is an excellent option at full-back and McCormack is an International striker, previously rated at £4m.
We did have a problem in midfiled but McCormack could operate on either flank while Peter Whittingham and Darcy Blake are viable on-field options to cover central midfield.
We do need some new faces in, but with McPhail, Wildig, Koumas and Taiwo to return - things are definitely looking up for Cardiff City.
