Cardiff City captain Mark Hudson has spoken of his delight following a hastily arranged meeting between the squad, and Chairman Dato Chan Tien Ghee where the Malaysian investor re-assured the players that the club is moving forward and will look to back that up with further moves in the transfer market.
City brought Jason Koumas in last week, and were able to register him and fellow recruits Tom Heaton and Danny Drinkwater after TG forwarded further funds to help pay off outstanding debts to Charlton Athletic, Sunderland and HMRC.
City have retained a strong core of players, the majority of last season`s starting XI. However, there is no strength in depth and injuries / suspensions would scupper any chances of a successful season. Several players have spoken of the need for new faces, and urged City to make their ambition clear.
Hudson told the SW Echo:
"We had a meeting an hour-and-a-half before the game and he came in and said the things we wanted to hear. That`s great and hopefully we can see it happen now."
"We`ve managed to keep the majority of the side together and Jason coming in is great news. But we`ve been assured we`ll be getting a few more, which will only benefit us."
A left-back, central midfielder and powerful striker as back-up for Jay Bothroyd are priorities for Dave Jones, but an extra central defender to bolster his unbalanced backline may also be a consideration. Loan players are now becoming available as Premiership clubs look to firm up their squads, while a number of free transfer options are possible.
