Koumas At Cardiff: Flair Or Flop ?

Koumas At Cardiff: Flair Or Flop ?

Cardiff City yesterday announced that Welsh former loan star Jason Koumas has joined on loan for the season from Wigan Athletic. The cultured midfielder was a revelation during his last spell in South Wales and supporters will be desperately hoping he can emulate that contribution and once again offer the guile, skill and goal threat of the 2005/06 season.

However, whilst Koumas possesses real quality, he has failed to show it at previous clubs West Bromwich Albion and Wigan Athletic - who paid a huge fee of over £5m for his signature. In the previous spell, Koumas was 26 and in his prime. Now at the age of 30, Koumas has played just a handful of games in 3 seasons at Wigan including just 5 league starts last year where he never once played the full 90 minutes.

It is therefore clear that Koumas will not be in peak physical condition, and severely lacking in match sharpness. Alex Armstrong and the other CCFC coaches will have to work hard with Jason, and Koumas himself will also have to be committed and show the right attitude.

There are those who are delighted we have re-captured Koumas, especially given our money worries and Koumas` high wages (some of which are paid by Wigan). However, others are concerned his best years are behind him and he will struggle to make an impact.

What are your thoughts? Can Koumas pick up where he left off? Or has he missed his chance and is destined to flop? A poll is now open on the bottom right of your screen where fans can leave their opinions on the Koumas signing.

Could be a good signing - once fit will be able to do a job! Ok to slate him if he were 35, but at 30 still has much to offer. Good catch for the club, well done Dave Jones!

Good signing for you if he gets his act together. Had the ability at Wigan but more often than not failed to show it, and there were a number of reported off the field problems too.

I have never been more happy to see a player leave for pastures new. He has the skills but never once showed any willing to work for the wage we paid him. His time here has been dogged by appalling performances (Arsenal two years back...), brilliant performances (Villa last year) and alleged alcohol problems. No Wigan fans will shed any tears at his departure, my only surprise is that he's playing as high as the Championship!

Koumas has 3 main positions: [1] on the left midfield and cutting in, [2] 'in the hole' behind the striker(s) or [3] in the dugout looking grumpy. He played mostly position 1 for us, and position 3 for Wigan :D

He played 1 and 2 pretty poorly for us and then as a result failed to make 3 and was left with position 4 (sat at home, looking grumpy)
