Cardiff City fans are preparing for a busy season of transfer speculation whichever division we end up in with our financial plight much documented and after an impressive season in which injuries and off-field problems have failed to prevent a play-off place.
While Chopra, Burke, McPhail and Bothoyd are all likely to attract numerous rumours, it is the Championship's leading scorer Peter Whittingham who will cause the most speculation, with Joe Ledley also out-of-contract and likely to receive numerous offers.
West Ham are the latest club to show a strong interest and are a genuine possibility given their massive summer squad clearout. New co-owner David Sullivan watches out for our scores and will surely have boticed the regularity with which Whittingham has gotten onto the scoresheet.
Quite how he's managed to do so, I am not sure. Honestly, I felt we should have offloaded the former Aston Villa man after a poor season last year. Nottingham Forest offered £500k and I'd have taken that without thinking - his value must surely have inflated to 5-times that amount now and the classy winger has realised his potential.
Goals can never be the oinly contribution a midfielder makes to the team, but in reaching 20 league goals - he's outscored every striker in the division. Some neat touches, deadly crossing and set-piece delivery make him a valuable asset in any team and his confidence is soaring. Whittingham even beat his man during the 3-2 win over Sheffield Wednesday - a rare sight and rarely necessary in his style of play.
There's even a case that Whittingham would be more effective in the Premiership - he certainly doesn't suit the 'hustle' of the Championship and for further re-enforcement, remember the curled right footed effort and sublime free-kick assist provided by Whitts in our 2-0 win over Middlesbrough during the 2008 FA Cup run.
